On March 1 five left activists were searched in Sevastopol. Two of them were arrested.
Last months the Russian authorities began to persecute the left activists in Crimea. On November 14, 2017, investigators brought the case to the worker Valery Bolshakov. Bolshakov for a long time headed the Workers Union of Sevastopol, and at present he is the secretary of the Sebastopol branch of the party "The Russian United Labor Front." The events in Greece concerning the so-called “name dispute” with respect to Macedonia have caused an extremely nationalistic turn in the country, pitting a sizeable part of the Greek population against the neighboring people of Macedonia. Sections of the left have capitulated to the rising chauvinism. The Workers’ Revolutionary Party (EEK) of Greece has been a proud internationalist voice in this hysteric atmosphere. Below we are publishing an English translation of EEK’s statement with some delay due to translation and editing. The statement talks about the 4th February demonstration in Athens in the future tense because the text itself was issued on 30th January. This demonstration has now been held, gathering a crowd estimated to be close to 300 thousand.

Two Balkan states, namely the Republic of Macedonia and Greece, are waging a bitter feud with one another over a name issue for some twenty-odd years. While Macedonia, among the former republics of federal Yugoslavia, wanted to keep this name after the collapse of the federation, Greece took a firm stand to impede this new republic from using the name of Macedonia, on the basis of the claim that this name belonged to Hellenic history. Lately, discussions are underway under the aegis of the US and EU imperialists and NATO, for a solution that will pave the way for Macedonia's NATO membership.

Металургични синдикати, обединени в три различни конфедерации следващи противоположна идеологическа линия се включиха в стачката едновременно. Само този факт е достатъчно доказателство за неотложността на положението на работниците в този отрасъл, като един от синдикатите, най-големият казионен профсъюз, е същия, срещу който десетки хиляди работници протестираха само преди две години, а вторият е свързан с конфедерацията, контролирана от управляващата партия ПСР!

The metalworkers’ strike in Turkey, declared by all three unions present in that industry and involving around 130 thousand workers, ended with a partial victory for the workers. The bosses’ organisation agreed to roughly eight times the wage raise that it had conceded on the first round of negotiations. Given the fact that one of the unions, by far the strongest in the industry, is a yellow union that was set up under the military dictatorship of the early 1980s precisely to regiment the struggle of metalworkers, itself the leading force in the struggles of the working class of Turkey up until that time, and that another of the three is affiliated to a confederation that slavishly follows the line of the AKP government, this in itself is quite an accomplishment. However, even more importantly, and of clear significance in terms of which side was able to impose its will, the term of the contract was held down to the conventional two years rather than the three advocated by the capitalists of the industry.
Il governo turco di Erdoğan e dell'AKP ha dichiarato guerra al cantone curdo di Afrin in Siria e ha causato il caos nella parte settentrionale di Cipro intromettendosi nella libertà di stampa. Questi interventi inaccettabili in due paesi diversi sono in realtà continuazione delle pratiche dispotiche e arbitrarie di questo governo a livello nazionale, creando un regime sempre più repressivo all'interno della stessa Turchia. In contrasto con l'impressione che le cosiddette istituzioni "democratiche" del mondo imperialista stanno cercando di creare, il carattere repressivo del governo Erdoğan-AKP non si limita all'area dei diritti politici e civili e delle libertà, nella quale le violazioni sono ovviamente presenti in modo molto chiaro, ma si manifestano continuamente anche nelle relazioni industriali. The Turkish government of Erdoğan and the AKP has declared war on the Syrian Kurdish canton of Afrin and caused havoc in Northern Cyprus by meddling with press freedom. These unacceptable interventions in two different countries are really continuations of the despotic and arbitrary practices of this government domestically, creating an increasingly repressive regime within Turkey itself. As opposed to the impression the so-called “democratic” institutions of the imperialist world are trying to create, the repressive character of the Erdoğan-AKP government is not confined to the area of political and civil rights and freedoms, in which area the violations are of course very clearly present, but manifests itself on a continual basis in industrial relations as well. The government has just banned a strike planned to start on 2 February by all three unions of the metallurgical industry involving a 130 thousand strong workforce.
Hands off Afrin!
After the big protests, people go home. It’s obvious. And nothing happens. Or: no essential and lasting change, desired by the protesters, occurs. So: why protest?
Actually, people want at least a correct justice, the corrupt leaders be punished, therefore a certain respect of democratic laws and forms. They do not want anything else. Because they are educated to think that capitalism is “the best possible world” and only the corrupt officials harm the normal/decent welfare of all capitalism would suppose.
They are educated to think that at least this be realized, that their voice is important only to change the leading groups competing for power. Equally obvious, they are used by these groups.
In present, in Romania the government and the parliamentary majority is social democrat.
È stato in Tunisia che la rivoluzione araba è iniziata nel 2010. Ancora una volta, la gente è nelle stesse strade. La causa delle manifestazioni è il piano di austerità che il governo ha messo in atto il primo giorno del 2018. Secondo il nuovo piano di austerità, i prezzi di alcuni prodotti di base e quello del gasolio, utilizzato nelle zone rurali, dovranno aumentare. Inoltre, sono in aumento le tasse imposte su telefono, Internet e prodotti importati.
Per il momento le manifestazioni si svolgono in città come Kairouan, Gafsa e Tunisi. I report indicano che i manifestanti stanno cercando di impadronirsi di edifici pubblici. A Tunisi e Kairouan, hanno bloccato le strade e combattuto contro la polizia. A Tebourba, una città a 40 chilometri a ovest di Tunisi, la polizia ha ucciso un manifestante. Le notizie dicono che la morte del manifestante, che aveva 55 anni, è stata dovuta all'uso eccessivo di gas lacrimogeni da parte della polizia.
Il DIP, l'EEK e il PO, il 4 dicembre 2017, hanno organizzato un incontro programmato tra le rispettive parti in occasione della conferenza internazionale che si è svolta a Istanbul.
La conferenza del centenario
Il 3 dicembre, per il centenario della Rivoluzione d'Ottobre, noi che consideriamo questa rivoluzione il salto più avanzato dell'umanità come guida per l'azione ci siamo incontrati a Istanbul, in Turchia, convocati dal sito RedMed e dal Centro Socialista Balcanico “Cristian Rakovski”. La conferenza è durata tutto il giorno, dalle 11.00 alle 20.00, e ha visto la partecipazione di circa 400 persone piene di entusiasmo con una grande partecipazione nelle sue tre sessioni. La conferenza è stata organizzata dal DIP di Turchia con la collaborazione dell'EEK di Grecia, diventando un'attività pienamente sviluppata per il centenario della Rivoluzione d'Ottobre.
C'était en Tunisie que la révolution arabe avait démarré en 2010. Pour une nouvelle fois, le peuple est dans les mêmes rues. La cause des manifestations est le plan de l’austérité que le gouvernement a mis en vigueur le premier jour de 2018. Selon ce nouveau plan d’austérité, les prix de certaines denrées ainsi que celui du gazole, utilisé dans les régions rurales, augmentent. D'ailleurs, les taxes imposéesauxservices de téléphone, d'Internet et des produits importés s’élèvent.
Pour l’instant les manifestations ont lieu dans de villes comme Kairouan, Gafsa et Tunis. Les reports indiquent que les manifestants essaient de s'emparer des bâtiments publics. En Tunis et Kairouan, ils ont bloqué les routes et se sont battus contre les policiers. En Tebourba, une ville se situant 40 kilométrés à l'ouest de Tunis, les policiers ont tué un manifestant. Les nouvelles indiquent que la mort de ce manifestant, qui avait 55 ans, était à cause de l'usage excessif de gaz lacrymogène par les policiers.

The protests that began in the last days of 2017, spread surprisingly to many provinces of Iran, and almost turned into a popular revolt. Its content took the form of a political protest, challenging directly the tyranny of the so-called Islamic Republic, rather than protesting only the high costs of living or the corruption. It’s the main reason why these events are of a different kind compared to the “Green Wave” of 2009, whose demands remained limited to the pursuit of freedom and democratic rights by the petty bourgeois which, by excluding economic class demands, made it impossible to extend the protests to the masses then.
We strongly support the insurgent masses, whose revolt is legitimate as they have the right to rebel against the corrupt exploiters, the so-called Islamic bourgeois and the mullah, who never pay a price arising from the embargo of the imperialists, but instead, live prosperous lives.
DIP, EEK and PO, on the 4th of December 2017, carried out a previously planned meeting between the respective parties by taking advantage of the international conference that was held in Istanbul.
The centenary conference
On the 3rd of December, for the centenary of the October Revolution, by the call of RedMed web network and Christian Rakovsky Balkan Socialist Center, those who regard this most advanced breakthrough of humanity as a guide to action came together in Istanbul, Turkey. The whole-day conference lasting from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., which was attended by close to 400 people filled with enthusiasm, with a certain circulation in its three sessions, was hosted by DIP of Turkey with contributions of EEK of Greece and became a fittingly accomplished activity for the centenary of the October Revolution.
The protests against the high cost of living in the cities of Khorasan province on December 28th soon spread to many cities of Iran incredibly quick and almost turned into a revolt within a week. The protests primarily targeted the high cost of living, financial difficulties and corruption. However, they quickly became politicized and began to target the foundations of the Islamic Republic (IR), namely the religious autocracy. The slogans quickly turned from “death to high cost of living”to “death to the dictator”.
These demonstrations and protests emerged as a result of the spontaneous act of the masses. Currently, it does not have any leading or coordinating center. It is still in its early stagesand needssome basic organs, such as local committees and councils to lead it to go further. Due to the present weakness of the progressive opposition forces in Iran, there is no revolutionary structure to lead the movement. But this spontaneity and being leaderless, for this moment, adds a great power to it. This power has deeply shaken the IR. Те се борят от години за правото да се обединят в синдикат и в момента са много близо до това, синдикатът им да бъде официално признат във фабриката. Приближавайки се до тази цел, работниците се сблъскаха с тежки репресии от управата, от където започнаха да уволняват хора за да уплашат работниците и да разбият синдиката. Вчера, 6 работници са били уволнени. Днес, техните колеги обявиха стачка в знак на солидарност с уволнените към която се присъединиха работниците от всички смени и блокираха работата на фабриката. Стачката вече се разрастна и в знак на солидарност с протестиращите пред сградата на фабриката се събраха и работници от други предприятия в региона.
