During 3 full days and evenings from March 11th to 13th 2016, about 300 participants from different civil society organisations and radical left forces gathered in Wroclaw (Poland) to exchange experiences on the peripheral situation of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEEC) in cooperation with Southern European, North African and Latin American countries and with the participation by skype of Dr Samir Amin from Egypt and Dr Mazin Qumsyeh from Palestine, in order to outline common political goals for the future. As a result of the 13 sessions on wide ranging issues, like militarization, racism, antifascism, feminism, refugees, neo colonialism, environment, peripherization, workers rights and devastating consequences of the system change in CEEC and the current popular uprisings in Southern Countries, we reached the following conclusions:
During the Social Forum of Central and Eastern Europe which took place in Wroclaw, Poland between 11 and 13 March, the voice of Marxism was heard again in this region where bureaucratic workers’ states had been in power for nearly five decades. But this time Marxism was represented not by Stalinism, but by revolutionary Marxism.
The drowning of three-year-old Alan Kurdi in the Mediterranean as his family attempted to reach Greece in an inflatable boat, and pictures of his lifeless little body washing up on the shores of Bodrum on the Turkish Mediterranean coast finally awakened millions, those with any remaining trace of humanity. Yet, if this emotional reaction is not reinforced with a lasting struggle and if the social sensitivity is not transformed into organising and action, the awakening will rapidly wear down, racism and nationalism will arise once again and the plight of migrants and those seeking the right to refuge will once again be papered over.
An international workshop titled “Crises and Victims: A Workshop on Refugees, Migrants, and Anti-Refugee Discourses in a New Way,” organized jointly by the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, the Karl Polanyi Center for Global Social Studies, and Eszmélet journal, was organized in Budapest on February 26-27, 2016. The meeting was held at a critical conjuncture defined by two related developments. First, European governments have been doing their best to refuse admitting refugees escaping from wars in Afghanistan, Libya, and Syria, which started and/or escalated due partly to direct or indirect intervention of the same European powers. Second, xenophobia and racism, which have been important problems in Europe for a long time, have reached an alarmingly high level. In the workshop progressive and socialist intellectuals from various European countries discussed different perspectives on the contemporary refugee crisis and its possible progressive solutions.
Suicide bombers have this time hit the heart of working class Ankara, the capital and second largest city of Turkey. This is the third in a row for the city: on 10 October, two successive explosions killed more than a hundred people during a demonstration organised by trade unions, demanding peace and expressing solidarity with the oppressed and heavily repressed Kurdish people of the southeast of Turkey. Then, on 17 February, it was the heart of official Ankara that was hit by a suicide bomber in an operation that killed 29 officers and civilian employees working for various armed forces as they were headed home after work. Now, it is the working people of Ankara that have been killed in a bombing attack in Kızılay, both a popular shopping and recreation area and a transportation hub where the metro, municipal buses and the shared taxi system, all serving the labouring masses, cross.
El mundo ha iniciado 2016 lleno de preocupación y horror. Ocho años después del derrumbe de Lehman Brothers, el capitalismo mundial se hunde cada vez más en su crisis intensificada y todavía irresuelta, arrastrando a la humanidad a mayores niveles de austeridad, desempleo, desigualdad, falta de vivienda y miseria. Ha creado una situación socio-económica en la que la plaga fascista ha conseguido de nuevo levantar cabeza. Las contradicciones del capitalismo han creado conflictos y guerra en Oriente Medio, en África, en las antiguas repúblicas soviéticas y en otras zonas, guerras que incluso amenazan con convertirse en una Tercera Guerra Mundial. Y ha desatado un proceso de degradación medioambiental que amenaza no solo nuestro futuro como humanos sino el de todas las especies de planeta.

The world has entered 2016 full of concern and horror. World capitalism, eight years after the Lehman Brothers collapse, is sinking further in its still unresolved, rapidly deepening crisis dragging humanity into ever greater austerity, unemployment, inequality, homelessness and misery. It has created a socio-economic environment in which the fascist plague has once again reared its head. Its contradictions have created conflagration and war in the Middle East, in Africa, in the former Soviet republics and elsewhere, wars that even threaten a Third World War. And it has unleashed a process of environmental degradation that threatens not only our future as humans but all living species.
The Revolutionary Workers' Party (DIP) was invited to talk at the annual education for activists' conference of the Trotsky School of Socialist Action/Ligue pour l'Action Socialiste of Canada. A Sultanahmet, una delle zone più centrali e turistiche di Istanbul, un attacco dinamitardo dell'ISIS ha ucciso 11 persone, i feriti sono dozzine. Il Partito Rivoluzionario dei Lavoratori condanna questo attacco e porge le sue condoglianze alle famiglie delle vittime. Sul piano politico, i responsabili dell'esplosione sono il governo dell'AKP e di Erdoğan, che cercano di dividere la Turchia e il Medio Oriente sulla base del settarismo. Questo è stato un altro passo in avanti sulla strada per la sirianizzazione della Turchia. Il governo AKP sta trascinando la Turchia nel vortice della guerra settaria, e ogni passo culmina nello spargimento di sangue e nel massacro. En Sultanahmet, una de las partes más turísticas y centrales de Estambul, un ataque con bombas del ISIS mató a 11 personas y dejó decenas de heridos. El Partido Revolucionario de los Trabajadores condena este ataque y ofrece sus condolencias a los familiares de las víctimas. Desde el punto de vista político, es el gobierno del AKP (Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi, Partido de la Justicia y el Desarrollo; red.) y (el presidente Recep Tayyip) Erdogan, al tratar de dividir Turquía y el Medio Oriente en base al sectarismo, el responsable de esta explosión. Ha sido otro paso en el camino de la “sirianización” de Turquía. El gobierno del AKP está arrastrando a Turquía al torbellino de una guerra sectaria y cada paso de este gobierno termina con baños de sangre y masacres. El AKP podría ahogarse en este torbellino, pero aquellos que han perdido sus vidas en las masacres son trabajadores y personas inocentes.
The President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has attacked a petition signed by over 1,200 academics criticising the ongoing police and military operations in many Kurdish towns ordered by the government. Among many things he also said he would like foreign academics to come to Turkey and see for themselves what was really happening. He specifically referred to Professor Noam Chomsky, renowned linguist and social critic, among those he wished to be invited for this purpose. This is what he said:
“I leave aside those who have signed the so-called academics’ petition. I invite foreign academics to Turkey. It will not do to sign a petition only. Come and see what is happening in the east and the southeast; we are ready to explain. Is it a violation of the law or is it the usurpation of the rights of the citizens by the terrorist organisation? Let them come and see. For instance, let the US ambassador invite Chomsky so that he receives a truthful report rather than the information provided by employees of the fifth column.”
Il governo turco sta perseguendo una politica criminale nella regione curda del paese, in Siria e nel Medio Oriente in generale.
Nonostante sostenga il contrario, tutte le prove indicano che sta continuando il sostegno la complicità con i signori della guerra omicidi di ISIS consentendo che il petrolio di ISIS venga commercializzato attraverso la Turchia, permettendo che il proprio territorio venga usato per il transito di militanti che da tutto il mondo si uniscono alle file dell’organizzazione e fornendo al bisogno rifugio e cure mediche per i miliziani di ISIS, e fornendo armi a ISIS e a una serie di gruppi takfiri settari. Se è così, tutto questo contribuisce alla complicità con un movimento che minaccia il futuro dei popoli del Medio Oriente e persino del mondo intero.

Ο Πρόεδρος της Τουρκικής Δημοκρατίας, Ρετζέπ Ταγίπ Ερντογάν, επιτέθηκε σε ένα κείμενο συλλογής υπογραφών το οποίο συγκέντρωσε περισσότερες από 1200 υπογραφές ακαδημαϊκών οι οποίοι επικρίνουν τις εξελισσόμενες αστυνομικές και στρατιωτικές επιχειρήσεις σε πολλές Κουρδικές πόλεις οι οποίες διατάχθηκαν από την κυβέρνηση. Ανάμεσα σε πολλά άλλα είπε επίσης πως θα ήθελε ξένοι ακαδημαϊκοί να έρθουν στην Τουρκία για να δουν οι ίδιοι τι πραγματικά συμβαίνει. Αναφέρθηκε ειδικά στον Καθηγήτη Νόαμ Τσόμσκι, περίφημο γλωσσολόγο και κοινωνικό ακτιβιστή, ανάμεσα σε αυτούς που ευχήθηκε να προσκληθούν για αυτόν τον σκοπό. Ορίστε τι είπε:
Cumhurbaşkanı Tayyip Erdoğan, 1.128 akademisyenin yayınladığı bildiriyi eleştirmek için ABD’li ünlü dilbilimci ve toplumsal yorumcu Noam Chomsky’yi Türkiye’ye davet etmişti. ABD Büyükelçisi’nin de Chomsky'yi davet etmesini, bölgeye gitmesini sağlamasını, “beşinci kol elemanlarından değil doğrudan bilgi almasını” önermişti.
Chomsky’nin başında olduğu dünyaca ünlü bir dizi akademisyen ve aydın ise sanki Tayyip Erdoğan’a önceden cevap verir gibi, Türkiye hükümetinin hem Kürt politikasını, hem de IŞİD’le ilişkisini sert bir şekilde eleştiren bir metne imza attılar. Metin “eldeki bütün bulguların hükümetin IŞİD’in eli kanlı savaş ağalarına yardım etmeyi sürdürdüğünü düşündürdüğünü” ileri sürerek Türkiye hükümetini “IŞİD’e yardım ve yataklık” yapmaya son vermeye çağırıyor.
In Sultanahmet, one of the most touristic and central parts of Istanbul, a bomb attack of ISIL killed 11 persons and left dozens of people wounded. The Revolutionary Workers’ Party condemns this attack and offers its condolences to the relatives of the victims. From the political point of view, it is the AKP government and Erdoğan, trying to divide Turkey and the Middle East on the basis of sectarianism, who are responsible for this explosion. This has been yet another step on the way to the Syrianisation of Turkey. The AKP government is dragging Turkey into the maelstrom of sectarian war and every step of this government ends up with bloodshed and massacre. The AKP might drown in this maelstrom, but those who have lost their lives in the massacres are the toiling peoples and innocent persons.
A series of acts of terrorism worldwide and war against Syria which is carried out by ISIL supported by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey with capitalist countries of the West behind them led by the USA again brought inadmissible close Europe and the whole world to the beginning of new world war. Situation is such that literally from each of those to whom the peace, safety and prosperity of people in each country are real and great values, have to make every effort immediately for restraint of those who pushes the people to a new world slaughter as the result of which the mankind could not survive. The military operation of Russia, the state of peripheral imperialism in Syria, has not only officially proclaimed purpose – to finish terrorist threat from ISIL, but also to strength its geopolitical interests in the Middle East region, to derivate of the Russian people attention from sharply worsening economic situation in the country. But today it is necessary to prevent the main threat which hung over mankind – the Third world war, way to which lies through terrorism and so-called local wars, other armed conflicts, including ones between the states.

The conference was held in Istanbul on the 29th of November, 2015. There were two opening speeches at the beginning of the conference, one by Selim Sezer, on behalf of BDS Turkey, and the other by Zeina Hamad from the Palestinian diaspora in Turkey. Sezer’s speech pointed out the importance of the 29th of November, the Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, while Hamad underlined that the peoples of Turkey and Palestine find their paths in the poems of Nazım Hikmet and Mahmoud Darwish.
Savas Matsas, Secretary General of the Workers' Revolutionary Party (EEK) of Greece, was invited to talk on the current situation in Greece at several events in England and Scotland during the month of November. He spoke first in London at the Historical Materialism 2015 London Conference, then in Scotland at a meeting organized by Left Unity Glasgow South, and finally gave a lecture organized by the journal Critique at the Department of Sociology of Glasgow University. El derribo del avión de combate ruso por la fuerza aérea de Turquía ha señalado la amenaza de una guerra regional o incluso mundial absoluta con consecuencias devastadoras para la humanidad. Se trata de un episodio de la tormenta a la que Siria ha sido sometida, como resultado de la intervención del imperialismo y la triada Arabia Saudita - Qatar y Turquía empujando su agenda sectaria Sunni. Это один из эпизодов мучений, которым Сирия подвергается в результате интервенции империализма вместе с трио Саудовская Аравия – Катар – Турция, продавливающего их суннитскую повестку дня. The downing of the Russian warplane by the Turkish air force has signalled the threat of an outright regional or even world war with devastating consequences for humanity. This is one episode of the torment to which Syria has been subjected as a result of the intervention of imperialism and the trio Saudi Arabia-Qatar-Turkey pushing their Sunni sectarian agenda. Our parties are resolutely against the further escalation of the tension between the Russian Federation and Turkey and condemn the policies that have led to this delicate situation that threatens a war of catastrophic dimensions.
Turkey’s elections have stunned the whole world. A turnaround of such a magnitude in a matter of five months is probably unprecedented in electoral history. Having lost a full one fifth of its electorate (nine percentage points) in the general elections of 7 June earlier this year, the AKP of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, now president of the republic and formerly prime minister, made an unbelievable comeback in the snap elections held on 1st November. It regained all that it had given away earlier, receiving close to half the popular vote. Two million votes taken away from the fascist party, the MHP; one million from the HDP, the predominantly Kurdish party; half a million form a fundamentalist Islamist party, the predecessor of the AKP, and another million from new strata that came to vote at a higher rate this time. By any standards, the volatility of the electoral figures, to use purposefully a term popular in stock market jargon, is extremely intriguing.
La inmensa catástrofe que asoló las calles de la capital de Turquía en Ankara, el 10 de octubre, cuando dos bombas explotaron en medio de una multitud de lo que posiblemente fue de cientos de miles de personas, que lleva a la muerte a un número indeterminado de personas, en todo caso superior a cien, y heridas a cientos, algunos todavía en el riesgo de muerte, es un claro recordatorio, si es que hacía falta alguno, que se trata de un país bajo una grave crisis política. La trágica pérdida de vidas, que van desde un niño de nueve años de edad a una mujer de setenta años de edad y que involucra la muerte de un número muy elevado de jóvenes, ha dejado en profunda pena y luto a todos los que participaron en la manifestación por la paz que fue atacada: al movimiento de la clase obrera, la amplia izquierda, la comunidad alevita (la denominación minoritaria religiosa en Turquía), y el pueblo kurdo.
The immense catastrophe that struck Turkey in the streets of Ankara, the capital city, on 10 October, when two bombs exploded in the midst of a thronging crowd of what would possibly turn out to be hundreds of thousands of people, leading to the death of an indefinite number of people, in any case exceeding one hundred, and the wounding of hundreds, some still under the risk of death, is a sharp reminder, if any were needed, that this is a country undergoing a severe political crisis. The tragic loss of life, ranging from a nine-year old boy to a seventy-year old woman and involving the deaths of a very high number of young people, has left the working class movement, the broad left, the community of Alevis, the minority religious denomination in Turkey, and the Kurdish people, all of whom were involved in the peace demonstration that was attacked, in profound grief and mourning. It is cause for consolation, however, to witness the fact that the main aim of this hideous attack has been thwarted since, despite the grief, the masses have not been intimidated and have come out in militant mood both to protest and to bury their dead.
Hemos perdido más de un centenar de vidas en la concentración del 10 de octubre en Ankara. En el Partido Revolucionario de los Trabajadores (DIP) estamos de luto por todos los compañeros que perdimos, hombres y mujeres, jóvenes y viejos, con los que nos habíamos unido en una lucha por la libertad, y ofrece sus condolencias a sus familias, así como a sus sindicatos y organizaciones políticas. Esperamos sinceramente que nuestros compañeros heridos se recuperen pronto.
La masacre del 10 de octubre en Ankara es el mayor ataque, en la historia de Turquía, a los trabajadores y los oprimidos en el ejercicio de su derecho a protestar. ¡Es más sangrienta que la del Domingo Sangriento de 1969! ¡Es más sangrienta que la del 1° de mayo de 1977! Es más sangrienta que la masacre de 1993 que tuvo lugar en el hotel Madimak en Sivas. Es el más atroz que todos los ataques a las celebraciones del Primero de Mayo tras el golpe de estado del 12 de septiembre. La masacre del 10 de octubre es, sin ninguna duda, el ataque más grande y más brutal a una manifestación organizada por los sindicatos.
Χάσαμε πάνω από εκατό ζωές στο συλλαλητήριο της Άγκυρας στις 10 Οκτώβρη. Το Επαναστατικό Εργατικό Κόμμα θρηνεί για όλους τους συντρόφους που χάσαμε· άντρες γυναίκες, νέους και γέρους, με τους οποίους είχαμε ενωθεί στον αγώνα για ελευθερία, και εκφράζει τα συλληπητήρια του στις οικογένειες τους καθώς και στα σωματεία τους και τις πολιτικές τους οργανώσεις. Ευχόμαστε ειλικρινά οι τραυματίες σύντροφοι να αναρρώσουν σύντομα.
Η σφαγή της 10ης Οκτωβρίου είναι η μεγαλύτερη επίθεση εναντίον των εργατών και των καταπιεσμένων στην Τουρκική ιστορία σε μια στιγμή που ασκούσαν το δικαίωμά τους στη διαμαρτυρία. Είναι πιο αιματηρή από την «Ματωμένη Κυριακή» του 1969! Είναι πιο αιματηρή από την πρωτομαγιά του 1977. Είναι πιο αιματηρή από τη σφαγή του 1993 στο ξενοδοχείο Μαντιμάκ του Σίβας [Σεβάστεια]. Είναι πιο αποτρόπαια απ’ όλες τις επιθέσεις στους εορτασμούς της Πρωτομαγίας που ακολούθησαν μετά το πραξικόπημα της 12ηςΣεπτεμβρίου. Η σφαγή της 10ης Οκτώβρη, χωρίς αμφιβολία, είναι η μεγαλύτερη και στυγνότερη επίθεση σε συλλαλητήριο που οργάνωσαν τα εργατικά συνδικάτα.
Alla manifestazione di Ankara del 10 ottobre abbiamo perso più di cento vite. Il Partito Rivoluzionario dei Lavoratori piange tutti i compagni che ci hanno lasciato, uomini e donne, giovani e anziani, ai quali eravamo uniti in una battaglia per la libertà, ed esprime le sue condoglianze alle loro famiglie e alle loro organizzazioni e sindacati. Speriamo sinceramente che i compagni feriti si riprendano al più presto.
Il massacro del 10 ottobre ad Ankara è stato il più grande attacco, nella storia della Turchia, ai lavoratori e agli oppressi nell'esercizio del loro diritto di manifestazione e protesta. È stato un attacco più sanguinoso del 16 febbraio del 1969 a Istanbul! Più sanguinoso del Primo maggio 1977 a Taksim! Più di quello del 1993 a Sivas. È stato più atroce di tutti gli attacchi alle manifestazioni del Primo maggio che hanno seguito il colpo di stato del 12 settembre del 1980. Il massacro del 10 ottobre è, senza dubbio, il maggiore e più brutale attacco ad una manifestazione sindacale che sia mai avvenuto.
La Turchia si sta rapidamente trasformando in un'altra Siria. Terroristi protetti dallo stato fanno esplodere bombe in mezzo a decine, centinaia di migliaia di persone nella capitale, Ankara. Più di cento morti, quasi quattrocento feriti... E questo massacro avviene in una Turchia in cui il governo non ha mosso un dito per cercare gli autori degli attentati preelettorali alle sedi dell'HDP e alle manifestazioni di Mersin, Adana e Diyarbakir, e a Suruç, il 20 luglio. Quindi, prima ancora di cercare di capire chi siano i responsabili questa volta, possiamo puntare il dito al governo AKP, senza esitazione.
We lost more than one hundred lives during the Ankara rally on October 10. The Revolutionary Workers Party mourns all the comrades we lost, men and women, young and old, with whom we had united in a struggle for freedom, and offers condolences to their families as well as their trade unions and political organizations. We sincerely hope that our wounded comrades will get well soon.
The October 10 Ankara massacre is the biggest attack in Turkish history on workers and the oppressed while exercising their right to protest. It is bloodier than the Bloody Sunday of 1969! It is bloodier than May Day 1977! It is bloodier than the 1993 massacre that took place at Madimak Hotel in Sivas. It is more atrocious than all the attacks on May Day celebrations following the September 12 coup. The massacre of October 10 is, without dispute, the biggest and most brutal attack on a rally organized by trade unions.
10 Ekim günü Ankara’da 100’ü aşkın canımızı yitirdik. Devrimci İşçi Partisi özgürlük kavgasında ve sınıf mücadelesinde omuz omuza vermiş olduğumuz genç yaşlı, kadın erkek o arkadaşlarımızın anısı önünde saygıyla eğilir, yakınlarına ve mensup oldukları sendikal ve siyasi örgütlere içtenlikle başsağlığı diler. Hâlâ ölümle pençeleşmekte olan yüzlerce dostumuza acil şifalar diler.
10 Ekim Ankara katliamı, modern Türkiye’nin bütün tarihinde emekçilerin ve ezilenlerin meydanlarda özgürlüklerini kullanırken uğradığı en büyük saldırıdır. 1969 Kanlı Pazar’dan daha büyüktür. 1 Mayıs 1977’den daha büyüktür! 1993 Sivas Madımak’tan daha büyüktür! 12 Eylül sonrasında 1 Mayıs’lara yapılan bütün saldırılardan daha büyüktür! 10 Ekim Ankara katliamı, hiç tartışmasız biçimde, bu topraklarda sendikal hareketin düzenlediği bir eyleme tarihte bugüne kadar düzenlenmiş en büyük saldırıdır.
Türkiye hızla Suriyeleşiyor. Devletin himayesindeki teröristler ülkenin başkentinde on binlerce, belki de yüz binlerce insanın orta yerinde iki bomba patlatıyor. Onlarca ölü. Seçim öncesi Mersin, Adana, Diyarbakır patlamalarını ve 20 Temmuz Suruç patlamasını seyreden, en ufak bir ciddi adım atmayan bir AKP hükümetinin Türkiye’sinde yaşanıyor bu katliam. Failleri kişi kişi tespit etmeden bile parmağınızı rahatlıkla AKP’ye ve hükümetine doğrultabilirsiniz!
Turquía está siendo transformada rápidamente en otra Siria. Los terroristas protegidos por el Estado turco explotan bombas en medio de decenas, quizá incluso cientos de miles de personas en la ciudad capital de Ankara. Más de un centenar de muertos, cerca de cuatrocientos heridos... Y esta masacre se está llevando a cabo en una Turquía donde el gobierno no ha movido un dedo para perseguir a los autores de las explosiones preelectorales en Mersin, Adana y Diyarbakir, y a la ocurrida en Suruç el 20 de julio. Así, incluso antes de tratar de averiguar quiénes son los perpetradores en esta fecha, podemos señalar con el dedo al gobierno del AKP sin dudarlo.

Οι τρομοκράτες υπό την προστασία του κράτους πυροδότησαν βόμβες ανάμεσα σε δεκάδες, ίσως ακόμα και εκατοντάδες χιλιάδες ανθρώπων στην πρωτεύουσα της Άγκυρας. Περίσσοτεροι από εκατό θάνατοι, σχεδόν τετρακόσιοι τραυματίες… Και αυτό το σφαγείο λαμβάνει χώρα στην Τούρκια όπου η κυβέρνηση δεν έχει σηκώσει τα δαχτυλάκι της για να διώξει τους φυσικούς αυτουργούς των εκρήξεων στη Μερσίν, στα Άδανα και στο Ντιγιάρμπακιρ πριν τις εκλογές και τη βομβιστική επίθεση στο Σουρούτς στις 20 Ιουλίου. Γι' αυτό πριν ακόμα προσπαθήσουμε να καταλάβουμε ποιοι είναι δράστες αυτή τη φορά,, μπορούμε να καταδείξουμε με το δάχτυλο την κυβέρνηση του AKP, χωρίς δισταγμό.
Turkey is rapidly being transformed into another Syria. Terrorists protected by the state explode bombs in the midst of tens, maybe even hundreds of thousands of people in the capital city of Ankara. Over one hundred deaths, close to four hundred wounded… And this massacre is taking place in a Turkey where the government has not lifted a finger to go after the perpetrators of the pre-election explosions in Mersin, Adana and Diyarbakir and the bombing in Suruç on July 20. Thus even before attempting to figure out who the perpetrators are this time, we can point our finger at the AKP government without hesitation.
