After the last stage of the Karabakh war came to an end, we had pointed out to the possibility of the war turning into oppression and massacre against the Armenian inhabitants of Karabakh/Artsakh. This possibility has turned into reality within only a short time. The Azerbaijani government is making a concerted effort for the military victory not to turn into a public relations disgrace. As we had explained in our previous article, the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev had declared shortly after the victory that he wanted to turn Karabakh into a paradise for the Armenian residents of the region also. Further, he allowed for observers from a host of Western countries and the United Nations to come to the region.
However, this PR campaign is just one side of the coin. Just as these declarations were made, the Armenian residents of Karabakh, who are rightly worried for their future, began fleeing to Armenia through the reopened Armenia-Karabakh corridor. Even though the numbers are still unclear, it is said that over 110 thousand people have fled from a region with a pre-war Armenian population of about 120 thousand. That means that an entire people are abandoning or being uprooted from the land that they have known as home and motherland for generations. It is impossible to understand the process in all its detail, at least not at the moment. However, there are two main possibilities. The Azerbaijani forces might be overtly or more possibly covertly encouraging the Armenian community to vacate the region. This would leave no doubt as to what is going on is ethnic cleansing. If the second possibility is true, that is, if the Azerbaijani side is not actively evacuating Karabakh but only turning a blind eye to the flight of fearful Armenians, this would still amount to the same thing. For this would mean that Azerbaijan is copying Israel who explained the exodus of the uprooted Palestinian people from their cities and villages following the Naqba (the Great Catastrophe) of 1948 with the spurious argument that they did not exile Palestinian, but they themselves decided to elave.”
It is not accidental that we brought the topic to Israel. Yes, the war took place between the Armenian forces of Karabakh and Azerbaijan; however, the Azerbaijani side fought with the drones the Zionist Israel sold and the armaments the Turkish despotic regime sent. Aliyev looks like he has lost all sense of shame about his relationship with Zionism. The joyous photographs taken next to Israeli drones is a sign of that. We do not think that a single example of a just war fought with the weapons of Zionism to be found in history. Those same weapons of Zionism have been tormenting the Rohinghian Muslim minority of Myanmar and the brave people of Palestine for decades. We should pose to the Turkish laborer who runs through his mind laughing at the Armenian’s pain or turning a blind eye on the uprooting of an entire people with the thought of “Our Turkish brothers won” the following question: if Azerbaijan was on the right side, why did it fight this war with Israel’s guns and cannons? Then what are we to do with Aliyev’s photos taken with Israeli drones?
We should take another step further and ask the question of how the Zionists came to decide to arm Azerbaijan. Is the load of Zionist armaments just an up-for-grabs, free-for-all resource? The Aliyev despotism had to make several concessions to Israel to use the Zionist weapons. Today, the Azerbaijani airspace is completely open to Israeli use. From gathering intelligence to sabotage, and first and foremost against Iran, the Zionists are using Azerbaijan as a headquarters. Further, Israel is apparently about to establish for Azerbaijan a “smart village” in Zangilan, which Azerbaijan took over in the 2020 war. Do not say “Oh good heavens, what is the deal with this smart village?”. Zangilan is just a stone’s throw away from the Iranian border. It is an open secret that this settlement that the Zionists sugarcoat as “smart village” is a listening and surveillance outpost against Iran. The goal behind establishing this outpost is for Israel to observe every move Iran, the greatest supporter of the Palestinian struggle today, makes, including sending armaments to Palestine. That mean that Aliyev is turning Azerbaijan, whose history is full of glories including a workers’ state, into the Zionists’ eyes and ears in exchange for Israeli tanks and cannons. Oh our dear working-class brothers and sisters, you tell us, should we celebrate the victory of this lot, who inscribed this shame to Azerbaijan’s history?
