Hands off Venezuela! Defeat of North American imperialism

In a new escalation of imperialist violence and terrorism, the fascist-like President Trump has sent powerful naval and military forces against Venezuela, its people, and its leadership under Nicolás Maduro.

In a Trump-esque move, US warships, a submarine, and Marine forces were sent to surround the Latin American country of the Bolivarian revolution. Three guided missile destroyers and a submarine, with 4,500 military personnel, sailed into the southern Caribbean, followed by the dispatch of three amphibious assault ships with a force of 2,000 marines.

Specifically, the large-scale military operation included the warship USS Iwo Jima, an amphibious ship capable of transporting troops and helicopters, the USS Fort Lauderdale and the USS San Antonio, as well as auxiliary landing craft with technology for operations in coastal areas. Also, three guided missile destroyers, the USS Gravely, USS Jason Dunham, and USS Sampson, capable of air defense, anti-submarine warfare, and precision missile strike capabilities at sea. In addition, a nuclear-powered attack submarine has been deployed, providing the capability for covert patrols and the option of precision underwater offensive action. For air control, the US has mobilized P-8 Poseidon maritime reconnaissance aircraft equipped with advanced radars and sensors for detecting and tracking ships and submarines, as well as torpedo and anti-submarine missile capabilities. The operation includes the deployment of E-3 AWACS and E-8 JSTARS aircraft, specialized in ground surveillance and real-time strategic analysis. The air fleet also includes ship-based helicopters for reconnaissance, logistical support, and evacuation missions.

This is a new, major escalation of US imperialist aggression against Venezuela, directed against the whole of Latin America. And it is clearly part of the imperialist march towards a third world war produced by the unresolved, historic crisis of global capitalism.

The justification for imperialist aggression against Venezuela is unbelievable. Trump and his team of warmongering "hawks" of US imperialism have dug up an old accusation against the leaders of the Bolivarian revolution, that they are allegedly a "drug gang" and the "largest drug cartel" in Latin America. The "Cartel de los Soles," or Cartel of the Suns, was invented about 30 years ago, specifically in 1993, six years before Nicolas Maduro's predecessor, Hugo Chávez, led the Bolivarian revolution and rose to power by being repeatedly elected president. Although decades have passed, no evidence has ever been presented to prove the existence of this criminal organization. In fact, in the latest report by the US State Department, dated March 2025, on global anti-drug operations, there is no mention of the Cartel of the Suns, nor of Maduro's involvement in the drug trade.

Based on these unfounded accusations, the Trump administration revived its failed 2020 campaign by announcing on August 7 an increase in the reward for information leading to the arrest of Nicolás Maduro. In fact, it set the reward at $50 million, double what was offered for Osama bin Laden.

In response to imperialist threats, Maduro and the Venezuelan leadership called on the Bolivarian Armed Forces and 4.5 million "popular militias of workers and peasants" to mobilize.

Defending the achievements of the Bolivarian revolution and Venezuela's national independence is a primary task for all the struggling people of Latin America and the international workers' and anti-imperialist movement.

Imperialist aggression is not limited to Venezuela. Trump and US imperialism openly support the fascist Bolsonaro in Brazil and his coup in Brasilia against the elected government of Lula, against which they are imposing coercive sanctions and tariffs, threatening direct intervention. In Bolivia, taking advantage of the split, electoral defeat, and collapse of the MAS, Washington is promoting the return to power of the coup plotters, would-be dictators, and large landowners of Santa Cruz. Colombia is also under direct and open threat of US intervention and the overthrow of its center-left government.

An unprecedented number of 10,000 US troops have been deployed on the border with Mexico, and US warships have been sent to the Gulf of Mexico, which Trump has renamed the "Gulf of America"!!!

The attack on Latin America aims at total control of what is considered the "backyard" of the US. It is part of the quest to revive the declining US imperialist hegemony on a global scale, with the ever-faster slide into a third world war, where China and Russia are the main targets.

The united—international and internationalist—action of the global working class and peoples, from Latin America to Africa, the Middle East with its bleeding but resistant Palestine, and Asia, is the urgent historical task for the defeat and revolutionary overthrow of international imperialist capitalism – which is leading humanity to destruction.

The establishment of a revolutionary International of the working class –which for the EEK is the Fourth International– is the fundamental task of revolutionary Marxists at this critical moment in history.
